What is terpinolene?

There are over 200 terpenes that the cannabis plant produces, including terpinolene. The terpinolene is really less common than other terpenes in its chemical class. Terpinolene mainly occurs in the sativa type.

What flavor does terpinolene have?

Despite the fact that terpinolene is a small component of the plant, it does have something unique, namely the smell of different cannabis strains. That is why cannabis is very sterk smells.

The smell is reminiscent of the forest. You can also describe it as earthy, fresh and offers signature scents such as pine and flowers. This is why it is often used with soap and perfume.

Where else is terpinolene found?

FROM nature terpinolene is present in different plant species. Some examples include nutmeg, Scots pine, oregano, rosemary, sweet marjoram, basil, and ginger.

Are there any effects?

As with almost all compounds in the cannabis plant, there are interesting therapeutic effects, but the research is far from over. Cell and animal studies have already been done, which have resulted in an expectation, but no human testing has yet been carried out. The cell studies and animal studies have therefore made an outline of what terpinolene can do to humans. So far it has the following effects:

  • Antitumor Effects
  • Antioxidant Effects
  • Pain Relieving Effects
  • Anti-Inflammatory Effects
  • Possible soothing effects
  • Potentially protective effects against cardiovascular disease

Facts

The study shows the terpene is effective at reducing the expression of a protein kinase called AKT. AKT, also known as protein kinase B, contributes to the progression of cancer, by regulating cell proliferation and survival signals.

Oxidation of LDL — caused by free radicals — can potentially cause hardening of the arteries. By counteracting this oxidation, terpinolene may help prevent the above conditions.
