What kind of sportswear do you wear in the gym?

A major reason people go to the gym is to look better. Besides the fact that it is of course a very healthy habit to go to the gym regularly, people simply also want to look good. So even if you are busy with exercises in the gym, you want to look good with a beautiful and functional outfit. It is of course important to comply with the house rules of the relevant gym with regard to clothing.

A dress code for the gym?

Of course, you shouldn't think too much about your sports outfit. The most important thing about sportswear is that it fits well and is of good quality, so that you can move as freely as possible and perspire comfortably. Most gyms have a set of house rules that also pertain to athletes' attire. For example, there are a few general rules for women, as well as for men.

Dress code for ladies

Not all sportswear is the same, and certainly not all types of sportswear are accepted in the gym. An example of this are the tennis or hockey skirts, which are generally quite short, and can provide the necessary insight into certain exercises. Ultra shorts are also generally not welcome. Most women wear one in the gym sports leggings, both long and short. You often see shorts in the gym, especially in the summer. From above, women in the gym generally wear a sleeveless sports top and a sports bra. In any case, be aware that most gyms do not allow you to exercise in casual clothes, jewelry and make-up. Casual clothing is not very stretchy, so you cannot move freely enough. Jewelry can pose a danger during some exercises because you can get caught on something with it. Make-up can come off when you sweat, and it is also an impediment to the proper functioning of the pores that have to let sweat through.

Dress code for men

For men, the dress code is a bit easier. Simply wear shorts or long track pants when it's a bit colder. A tip here is to choose trousers with at least one pocket, so that you can store your important things there and do not have to rent a locker every time. As outerwear, one will suffice sports shirt. In most gyms it is also fine to wear a tank top, but there are also places where they do not allow this. It is therefore wise to check this with your gym before purchasing a whole new wardrobe. A general rule in the gym is that it is not allowed to exercise with a bare upper body. This is seen as unhygienic.

Footwear

Finally, it is important to wear the right shoes in the gym. It is not allowed to exercise barefoot in gyms anyway. This can be dangerous, because you can bump yourself, but it is also seen as not very hygienic. An important aspect of good sports shoes is comfort. Strength athletes also benefit from choosing sports shoes that provide extra support to the ankles. Depending on whether there are rules in the gym regarding the soles, you can also simply choose to wear running shoes. However, some gyms have a rule that you cannot wear dark soles. If your gym has a ban on dark soles in the regulations, you will therefore have to purchase a pair of indoor shoes.
